Nigeria has one of Africa’s largest higher-education systems, with a long academic tradition and a fast-growing student population. In the QS World University Rankings 2027, released on 18 June 2026, Nigeria’s leading universities appear within QS’s banded global ranges, while the QS Sub-Saharan Africa rankings provide a sharper view of their regional standing. The University of Ibadan, Nigeria’s oldest university, leads the country, followed by the University of Lagos and Ahmadu Bello University.
